| Find your Digital Rebel's inner Holga
If you love the look of pictures taken with the Holga —those cheap, plastic cameras made in China—but don't want to deal with the oh-so-last-century idea of film, check out Holgamods' Holga Body Cap. Randy Smith, the man behind Holgamods, has taken the lens off a stock Holga and grafted it onto a Canon body cap that fits all of the Canon D-SLRs, including the Digital Rebel series, the EOS 5D Digital, the new EOS 40D Digital, and even the top-of-the-line EOS-1Ds Mark III (it would probably fit any of the more modern Canon film cameras as well). The result is pure plastic goodness without the darkroom. Like the Lensbaby (another of our favorite toys), the Holga Body Cap isn't an automatic lens. You'll need to shoot in manual mode, and set the shutter speed accordingly, but it's a lot of fun, and you end up those dreamy, variable-focus images that tell everyone you're just a little bit off-kilter.
Can Hip-Hop Erase The Color Lines?
Queen Latifah once sang U.N.I.T.Y and in this day in age its something we so desperately need. The question I pose is if it is possible that the culture of Hip Hop can erase the color lines and unite the people. Its an interesting topic, something Ive casually thought of before but never really dug deep into. So roll with me as I just express my thoughts, and remember these are just my thoughts people. Can Hip Hop heal the already embedded racial tension that lives in all of us? I think maybe in time if we can teach the younger generation love and break the cycle of hate it can. What better weapon than something that was birthed out of struggle and pain to bring out love and hope. Sadly Ive once said that I felt Hip Hop is an culture of bigotry. I know some think I dont know what Im talking about but really examine it.
Anne Frank given musical makeover
What will sell this show is its 13-year-old Cuban-born star Isabella Castillo, who shows great maturity and energy in the title role, portraying Anne Frank as sensitive and imaginative, but also as an essentially normal teenage girl. She gawps at boys, rows with her mother and whispers excitedly to her sister about getting her first period. The diary, which went on to become a historical treasure and sell 40 million copies, was often referred to by Anne as "Kitty". Here, Kitty is given a human face, in the form of an on-stage alter-ego played Basque actress Patricia Arizmendi. Meanest thug As a production device, it helps - we witness Anne's private hopes and fears, rants and desires. But again, if Anne Frank were to see this production, she might reasonably ask: "Who dressed Kitty?" The human diary first appears in a red chiffon dress with a fat sequinned belt and big hair - much like Wonder Woman going to a black-tie event.
Mobius Amsterdam 2007: Opening reception and disclosure
Last month Microsoft invited me and 21 others to the annual Mobius event where we ave the opportunity to provide feedback on the Windows Mobile platform, exchange ideas with other enthusiasts, and see some future plans for Windows Mobile. This year the event is being held in Amsterdam and I arrived this morning. I slept a bit to catch up on some sleep, but may have a tough time going to bed at a reasonable hour (it is actually 1 am right now). Most Super Bowl Commercials Forgot Closed Captioning
This could be on their production side (the spot isn't ready till the absolute last second, and there's no time to caption and master it), or on the broadcast side (they aren't easy to interface with to broadcast the captions for the commercials), or lack of interest (they don't feel 'obligated' to caption the commercial). .
The Slow Traveller
A trustworthy face is often better than a second-hand opinion on the page. So when we arrived in Antigua, the picturesque former capital of Guatemala, we were happy to take a room in Estella's Guesthouse. We try to support local businesses, and our room was spick, span and even had cute family photos on the shelf. So we paid upfront and nested in for our four-night stay in town. Antigua is dominated by the dark shadows of monstrous volcanoes. The scars of the earthquakes that accompanied previous eruptions are also evident in the shells of shattered churches. So no visit is complete without scaling one of the volcanic peaks for a glimpse of the blood of the Earth, up close and personal. In the village at the base of Mount Pacaya we were met by a mob of kids selling walking sticks.
