An ex-con, he also faces weapons charges. He was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center. It was the third bust of a meth lab this year, compared with the 40 to 60 labs broken up each year before the current pseudoephedrine legislation was enacted. -- Kimberly A.C. Obama and Progressive Change
I don¹t want to overstate the case for Barack Obama, who has been fairly circumspect about his intentions if elected. While saying he is against the Iraq War, he has not acted very forcefully to help bring it to an end. And he certainly has not called for any downsizing of America's bloated military budget or any end to its imperialist foreign policy‹absolutely essential if there is to be any progressive change of consequence in the US. That said, those who believe that the Democratic Party is firmly in the hands of a malignant and self-serving corporate and political elite have to explain why "³their" candidate, Hillary Clinton, seems to be sinking. Meanwhile, it must be acknowledged that the Obama phenomenon is a real thing. That is to say, whatever his personal politics, his candidacy is genuinely igniting a wave of passionate support across the nation among people‹particularly the young, and more recently African Americans-who had for years been ignored by, and consequently disinterested in the political process.
Live From Macworld: Hot Products Still Turn Heads as Crowd Thins
Anyone wanting to use a speech recognition app on a Mac can a) virtualize Windows and flip OSes each time text input is required, b) use two computers, or c) settle for the generally less-accurate Mac speech recognition programs out there. MacSpeech expects to change that with the release of Dictate, the first Mac speech recognition application that's based on licensed Dragon technology. Play nice with non-Mac volumes
Unlike the “classic" Mac OS, OS X does Windows. Out of the box, you can easily connect to Windows servers and shares. However, as any Windows-centric IT person will tell you—vehemently—OS X isn't necessarily the best neighbor in the Network Neighborhood. Every time you access a remote Windows share (or an NFS volume), Mac OS X leaves behind .DS_Store detritus—files that are useful, but invisible, to Mac OS X while being useless, and completely visible, to Windows users. In addition, if you copy a file with a Mac OS resource fork to a non-Mac volume, that resource fork is copied as a second file; for example, if an image named IMG_0995.JPG has a Finder thumbnail—which resides in the file's resource fork—copying that image to a non-HFS volume will result in two files being created on the volume: IMG_0995.JPG and ._IMG_0995.JPG .

China extends ban on animation
Sarft has also increased the daily broadcast ratio to 7:3 for Chinese-made cartoons and foreign product, part of a campaign to "provide a favorable environment for the innovation of China's cartoon industry." Previous restrictions on the denizens of Bikini Bottom and other foreign animated laffers had expanded the output of local content and continuously improved the quality of works, it said. The number of minutes of domestic toons grew 23% last year. As well as following a tight quota system for foreign movies, China introduces regular blackout periods of foreign pics to help boost the domestic industry. Most of the titles are still available in pirate DVD shops, however. Sarft also called for more funding from local broadcasters to buy local product. Last week, China's General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) called for a ban on ghosts and monsters, or any other skeins that were there "for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror," although it said that hugely popular titles such as "Harry Potter" would not be included in this ban, following an online outpouring of grief.
