Warren theaters begin to go digital
The move should increase movie quality for viewers while equipping Warren's theaters for the industry's evolution into live events. "There's no question that movies are going to remain 80 to 90 percent of our business," Warren said. "But the fact is the business is changing. There's 3-D productions like 'Beowulf' and Hannah Montana, live concerts like U2, opera and perhaps even live sporting events." Live events are a marketing niche that theaters are actively pursuing, said Patrick Corcoran, director of media and research for the National Association of Theater Owners. "Previously, live events and the networking necessary to distribute them didn't exist," he said. "Now, during the week when traffic isn't as heavy, operators will be able to bring in more niche, targeted programming like local sports, local and regional concerts." Already, live concerts and some opera performances are being simulcast into digital theaters around the country, Corcoran said.
Jonas Brothers out on their own
Following their graduation from Hannah Montana Middle School, kids might enroll at Jonas Brothers High School. Those aren't actual educational institutions, of course, but as kids age, they often tire of one musical act and "graduate" to another. The Jonas Brothers also have graduated, in a sense. They were the opening act for the Hannah Montana concert at the Allstate Arena in December. Friday night, the New Jersey siblings returned to the venue in Rosemont, but this time it was a stop on their first tour as a headlining act. The Jonas Brothers are guitar-wielding Kevin, 20; acrobatic vocalist Joe, 18, and plucky multi-instrumentalist Nick, 15, who can play guitar, drums and piano. The band's concerts attract exactly the same demographic as a Hannah Montana show -- girls in their early teens accompanied by their patient, compliant mothers.

Although not a polished offensive threat, White creates offensive opportunities with her defense and wreaks havoc on opposing teams' guards. White must avoid the foul trouble that sometimes plagues her due to the high energy level she plays with. Tournament question mark: The bench. Teams in Div. 2 North will have a hard time matching Masco's starting five, and even though Bob Romeo has regularly played three or four players off the bench, only once has the bench been put in a position where it had an opportunity to win a game. In Masco's only loss — an overtime setback to Cardinal Spellman — both Stewart and White fouled out.
