The fabulous Baker boys

When they were all in elementary school, they'd go watch him wrestle and even roll around on the mat with him. Randy would show them moves; talk to them; encourage them; be an idol; be an example.

By the time Ryan and Billy entered middle school, their garage was converted into a mini wrestling room, where they'd take turns waling on each other. Tyler would come over, too, along with others who eventually became Bellmont teammates.

"We went through a lot of bloody noses," Billy said. "One of us would get mad and we'd start going."

It will be Ryan who will be going after this year, since he's the lone senior. But that won't diminish the number of Bakers. Oh, no.

"It's awesome," Tyler says, pointing out that brothers Landon (eighth grade) and Brett (fifth grade) have their futures already laid out.

How could well-educated Bangkokians be deceived but poor lowly ...

I sure like to see Aphishit's promises of 12 year-free-education, free medical treatment for all, minimize traffic congestion in Bangkok, fight the corruption and drug, minimize or stop the ongoing violences in the south! Tell me about it fools!

A giant has fallen: Remembering Barry Barclay

It's been a couple of days now since the phone rang, and I heard from his sister Pauline that Barry Barclay had died.

Barry was - and remains - an absolute giant in New Zealand and the World's film communities. He is widely and famously regarded as the first member of an Indigenous nation to direct a feature film, and often held up in New Zealand as being possibly our greatest and most influential documentary maker. But I think it's important to remember now that Barry's more celebrated achievements - Ngati, the Tangata Whenua series, The Feathers of Peace - were founded on the back of a long and compassionate journey of discovery of self, of others and a rigorous, vigorous, disarmingly playful and punishingly sharp mind. .

Canon 40D Review

The test lab over at our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the Canon 40D Review SLR Camera. The Canon EOS 40D scored an Editor's Choice Award.

Quote from the review: "Late last year Canon released the EOS 40D, a 10-megapixel D-SLR targeted to serious photographers since it costs north of $1,000 USD for the body alone. Add a few lenses and accessories, the next thing you know youve hit $2K.
This camera is targeted for anyone looking at the older 10-megapixel Nikon D80 or the newer 12.2MP Sony alpha DSLR-A700, a camera I liked a great deal. In other words, its for those more than willing to go beyond Auto and make the most of a sophisticated imaging capture device (a.k.a camera)."

The TV wall-mount business must be fiercely competitive - I counted at ...

BBC journalists have done quite a bit of video from CES this year. You can see a round-up on the website here.

Some of our stuff is also appearing on YouTube. You can take a look at Click's Spencer Kelly rounding-up Intel's ultra mobile plans on BBC Worldwide's YouTube page.

And here's a video we made, whizzing around CES in a three-minute tour.

UPDATE: Here's Rory's video on the public row between Intel and OLPC that I found on YouTube too.
